President leaves for UK, France on official visit

President Ranil Wickremesinghe left the island for an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and France early this morning.

The President is to address a high-level panel discussion at the Global Leaders' Summit for a New Global Financing Pact scheduled to take place in Paris on June 22 and 23, 2023.

Most of the commentators here do not seem to appreciate that the President being invited to a very important meeting with foreign dignitaries is recognition of his leadership abilities. We have come out of queues for petrol and gas because this man is leading this country. We would be still standing in queues if a JVPer headed the country and there wouldn't be media freedom like this to criticize the ruler.

Invitations for the head of a state will always be there. It depends on your own choice to go or to abstain. Anyone wanting to sell something to you can wait for you to come and ask or invite you and add that cost to the selling price. A proper buying process for any thing necessary and an evaluation of bids is the right process.when you don't have the money go beg and pay the dictated price. Consumer demand is controllable.
