President leaves for Maldives

Katunayaka, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake departed from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning (28) for a three-day official visit to the Maldives.

The President was accompanied by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, along with several senior government officials as part of the official delegation.

The group boarded SriLankan Airlines flight UL-101, which departed at 7:30 a.m. for Malé, the capital of the Maldives.

According to the Airport Officer-in-Charge, the delegation is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka on July 30 following the conclusion of the visit.

Priority should have been given to the tariffs issue where a prudent decision should have been to meet the US President because of the deadline ie 1st August for negotiations of a better deal for exports instead of going to Maldives which could have been postponed; What is the urgency for this travel was it an important visit to strike a deal for maldive fish. Today jobs are at stake of the lowly garment sector employees whose lives depend on the outcome in the reduction of tariffs. We are talking of dynamic leaders but this is not the way forward as in todays context we need troubleshooters who will go that extra mile to target urgent problems at hand because in everything there is a time and place!!!!

Don't worry about the country being in deep shit while you travel to all the destinations on the map for no important reason; but just because you can. Remember how you criticized others about Presidential jaunts? You really are a hypocrite. Well the entire Govt. is.

Mr. President you have to fulfill somany promises you made in your political stage, but it seems you enjoy jolly trips forgetting everything. You seems to be not worrying for important issues, they you too can expect another Aragalaya -2 before December, 2025.

At least apart from enjoying sunny weather with pristine beaches, please comrade president and comrade foreign find out how Maldives earns US$ 2,736 per tourist where as SL earns only US$ 1,498 per tourist.
