President holds discussions with JICA head; BIA project to resume



Colombo, Sept. 30 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during his official visit to Japan, met with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo this morning (30), where it was confirmed that the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) project in Katunayake will be resumed soon.

The President expressed his gratitude to Japan for its continued support, particularly for resuming concessional yen loans through JICA.

Dr. Tanaka emphasized the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s private sector, industry, and agriculture as key drivers of sustainable economic growth, and expressed hope to continue long-term cooperation by monitoring the country’s macroeconomic management.

The two sides also discussed the implementation of the Waste Management Plan in the Western Province.
