Colombo, April 19 (Daily Mirror)- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today he never said no funds will be allocated for local bodies that are not controlled by the National People's Power (NPP) as claimed by some people.
Speaking at an election rally in Nuwara Eliya, the President said what he meant was that the funds will not be allocated for the local bodies to be misused and looted.
"The central government makes great efforts to collect funds to the Treasury by stopping misuse and looting. If the Local Government body is not following the same policy and misuses funds and loot them, we cannot allow that to happen. I said we will not allow the Local Government bodies to misuse and loot funds," he said.

According to NPP perspective all parties other than the NPP are corrupt which is why you do not work well together with anyone in the opposition. So when you take that into account, it is easy to conclude that every LG body that is not NPP will not get funds. So, is this a subtle threat to vote NPP or forget expecting development in their area?

That's kind of true though. Whether NPP will succeed is a different matter. But they are not corrupt. Can't say to same for others.

Yes what NPP said was true,Most of the pradeshiya saba members who got in to politics without a cent in the hand became milliners. Those pradeshiya sabas became den of rouges. opposition is trying all the tricks in the book to prove that NPP is no difference but has failed miserably.

Yes that was what the Prez said. I saw the speech live on TV that day. He said central government will release funds for projects controlled by central gov. earlier as they guarantee no abuse misuse corruption and giving work to kith and kin. Others will be released only after more intimate checks on project and plans as in the past these funds have been misused by local bodies.

PEOPLE KEEP PRAYING CHANGE IS SLOWLY FALLING INTO PLACE Saturday, 19 April 2025 08:27 PM
Well the PRESIDENT did not say he will only give funds to NNP held councils or local bodies, which was the earlier articles by SAJITH and the other GOON of a Secretary. ANY PRESIDENT/GOVT WILL NEED TO EXAMINE SOME LOCAL BODIES AS IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THE FAMILY MEMBERS AND STOOGES WERE GIVEN EMPLOYMENT AND ALSO FUNDS WERE MISUSED OVER THE PAST DECADES. ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN EXAMINED, IF FOUND TO BE CORRUPT AND PROVEN THEY SHOULD BE FIRED AND REPLACED WITH HONEST PEOPLE. THE MAJORITY WHO VOTED THIS PRESIDENT AND HIS GOVT INTO POWER WANTED A CHANGE AND THE PRESIDENT/GOVT IS SURE GOING TO GIVE IT TO THEM. DEMANDING10% COMMISIONS, PETTY BRIBES AND OTHER AREAS OF SUPPORT WITH FUNDS ALLOCATED TO THEM.

He said funds will be allocated but with a lot of scrutiny. For NPP ones, no such scrutiny is necessary as the funds won't get stolen. From what we have experienced and known about politicians, can anyone put up any reasonable resistance to his statement?

People, please understand. The president NEVER lies. Saturday, 19 April 2025 06:51 PM
@dds-I completely agree with you, mate! From what we have seen for the past six months since NPP's ascend to power, their demeanour and conduct have been beyond our expectations - Doctorate degree holders are still searching for their degrees in their closets, price of fuel has been reduced by Rs150, 323 red category containers have been released without any inspection, stolen money in Uganda has been added to our FOREX reserves, rice mafia has been busted, Arjun Mahendran is behind bars, electricity bill has been reduced by 30%, all former presidents' perks have been reduced to zero, VAT of essential goods is reduced to zero, all unemployed graduates are given jobs, IMF deal has been restructured to our advantage, price of an imported "Vitz" car is Rs 1.2 million, no Sampur power project, Sri Lanka does not need to get permission from India to allow military/shipping vessels entering Sri Lankan waters, etc. Yes, we can trust the NPP!!! Jaya hey!!!

The NPP strategically played the anti-Colombo card to attract votes from estate workers, leveraging support from India’s far-right religious movements operating in Sri Lanka. Simultaneously, they sought to win over the northern electorate by appealing to the diaspora with anti-Rajapaksa rhetoric. However, their message was ultimately rejected—even in Batticaloa, where they were expected to make inroads, the NPP suffered a clear defeat. Notably, they have also entirely disregarded the grievances of the Muslim community in the region. Fortunately, the public has begun to awaken to a painful truth: all political parties, regardless of their promises, are driven by the pursuit of power and personal agendas. The only real difference among them lies in the colors they wear—yet their true colors emerge only once they assume power. Did you do a census poll or are you an astrologer to say the public has begun to awaken to a painful truth. They won over the northern electorate by appealing to the fact that earlier govts gave them no hope and won all the tamil electorates and their message was never rejected.

The only real difference among them lies in the colors they wear—yet their true colors emerge only once they assume power.I am now thoroughly convinced that a significant portion of the electorate will either abstain from voting altogether or refrain from granting any party a decisive majority. The likely outcome is as follows:The Pohottuwa (SLPP) will retain control over the majority of local governments.A few councils in the Gampaha District and the Eastern Province may swing in favor of the SJB.Upcountry estate votes are expected to support the UNP.The Northern Province will likely favor Tamil parties. The NPP, despite its noise, will fail to secure any meaningful victories.
