President confident of successful election results

Colombo, May 6 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today he was confident that they will get successful results in the Local Government elections.

After casting his vote, he said that the National People's Power (NPP) had carried out a successful election campaign and that he strongly believes that they will get successful results.

The President said he hoped the people will follow the new political culture which was created in the country after the recent General and Presidential elections.

"We hope the people will celebrate the election victory peacefully. It is very important to uphold democracy not only during the election campaign but post-election as well," he said.

Yes, with all the malpractices like last minute blatant election violations by none other than Prime Minister, you can expect a win. But the question is the margin, compare to last two elections held 6 months before.

Unfortunately, some do not know how to read and digest what the PM said, so they will try to run with it. We the people do not need to compare and contrast, we got the president and his party elected with a majority to get corruption in politics and public service wiped out and others listed on his manifesto, this is all that matters, so keep throwing stones on the president and his party, remember stones do come back to hit you where and where one least expects.

Some of my farm workers were hell bent on gointo vote, as the GS had promised houses if NPP wins. This is the sad state of our country. None of the political parties are interested in developing the country, but corruption one way or other

@Mathan K, what was your expectation? That SL would be turned into another 'Singapore' overnight? The issue is not the Govt. but our lazy people. Most citizens are not willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Simply expecting free handouts (i.e. free education, free medical care, salary hikes, housing) while our country is officially bankrupt. Then they blame the Govt. for their miserable existence. Look at countries like China, Vietnam, and South Korea. They all took a different mindset and approach which propelled their nations to rapid prosperity. Instead of complaining every day, why not work together with the Govt. to improve the lives of everyone. Something to think about!
