President appoints Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne as acting AG

Colombo, April 29 (Daily Mirror) - Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne has been appointed acting Attorney General by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The President made this appointment since Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe is away on an official visit to India.

How come there is no one in the Attorney General Department who can act until AG returns from India? May be there is no one in the AG Department who would act according to the President?

Earlier we heard the Dileepa Peiris is to be appointed AG when there are at least 6 or more senior to him. This appointment is good and AGs department will function without issues

If you want to prosecute previous regime members who was involved in mega corruption and made the country bankrupt then put a whole new AG's department otherwise you cannot prosecute anyone. Most officials in AG's department corrupted to the core and they're henchmen of previous regimes.

What talent the AG's Department had in the 70's. Victor Tennakoon, ED and Ian Wikramanayake, Kenneth Seneviratne, Sunil de Silva, Sarath Silva to name a few. Why has it sunk to this level now?
