Colombo, April 22 (Daily Mirror) - Former Ratnapura District MP Premalal Jayasekara was produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today (22) following his arrest over an alleged firearm-related incident.

The former MP was taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Police in Nuwara Eliya on Monday (21) after a complaint was lodged accusing him of threatening an individual with a pistol during a dispute between two groups. The incident is reported to have occurred when he had travelled to the area with family members.

Police sources said that during initial inquiries, Jayasekara had failed to produce the original license issued by the Ministry of Defence for the firearm in his possession. However, subsequent verification with the Ministry confirmed that legal authorization had been granted for the pistol.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
