Power-generating reservoirs get good rainfall

A considerable rainfall has been received by the reservoirs associated with power plants in the Kelani and Mahaweli basins, the Irrigation Department said.

Department Director Eng. D. Abeysiriwardena said about 50mm to 60mm of rainfall has been received in the Kelani and Mahaweli basins.

“However, the upstream areas have received only minor rainfall and hence there is no considerable water level increase in the irrigation reservoirs,” he said.

He said that as a result, there was no need to open the spill gates of these reservoirs as there is still 36 per cent space for water.

He also said that all arrangements have been made for the cultivation relating to the Maha season. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
