Postponed LG polls: Apply for reimbursement of deposit money before February 28
Colombo, Feb 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission today requested the candidates who have paid deposits for the postponed local government elections to apply for the reimbursement of their funds before February 28, 2025.
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said in a statement that candidates should submit the original receipt they had obtained after depositing funds together with a written request.
He said deposits are reimbursed in line with the Local Government Elections (Special Provisions) Bill which was approved by Parliament on February 17, 2025.
This decision has been made to enable the Commission to call for new nominations as per the new Act.
