Postal workers to resume duties today; Fingerprint attendance from Monday

Colombo, August 24 (Daily Mirror) - Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said Postal workers have agreed to resume duties from 4.00 pm today (24) following discussions with union representatives and said that from Monday, fingerprint attendance systems will be introduced at the operations and administrative divisions of the central mail exchange.

Addressing the media he said the unions had consented to suspend their trade union action and return to normal duties.

“We were of the view that the government was not ready to discuss two main requests put forward by the trade unions, but it was ready to address the remaining 17 requests,” the Minister said.

He further said that from Monday, fingerprint attendance systems will be introduced at the operations and administrative divisions of the central mail exchange. In addition, the government’s proposed overtime payment regulations, which will take effect from March, will be implemented without any changes.

“Therefore, from 4.00 pm today, all trade unions have agreed to report for work, ending their strike,” Minister Jayatissa added.
