Colombo, Sep 17 (Daily Mirror) - Commenting on social media posts on Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe's assets, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday that possessing wealth is not an obstacle to come to politics, however, possessing undeclared assets is the issue.
The Minister told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that the National People's Power (NPP) has not acted or spoken against someone possessing assets and that the issue is if someone is possessing assets that has been acquired by undue means.
Responding to a question on social media posts on Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe possessing massive wealth, he said all NPPers have submitted their declaration of assets and liabilities and that if someone has a doubt that they possess undeclared assets, anyone can challenge it.
"We have submitted our asset declaration before June 31.This is a good example. Possessing wealth is not an obstacle to come to politics. There is no issue of someone possessing wealth. The issue is if someone possesses wealth and property amassed through undue means. We have not acted or spoken against someone having assets. The issue is if someone possesses undeclared assets. We have declared our and our families' lands, assets, vehicles and gold. This is a good culture. We assured to act in a transparent manner once we come to power," he said.
