Pope Francis appoints new Bishop of Chilaw



Chilaw (Daily Mirror) - Reverend Father Arachchige Don Wimal Siri Appuhamy Jayasuriya has been appointed as the new Bishop of Chilaw by the Holy Father Pope Francis, the Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka (Embassy of the Holy See) said.

Fr JAYASURIYA, born on 231 January 1969, was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Chilaw on 9th August 1997.

He holds a Baccalaureate in Philosophy and Theology from the Our Lady of Lanka National Major Seminary, Ampitiya.

Following his ordination and several years of pastoral ministry, he pursued further studies at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome from 2000 to 2005, where he earned a Licentiate and subsequently a Doctorate in Canon Law in 2005.

Prior to his appointment as the Bishop of Chilaw, Fr JAYASURIYA served as the Parish Priest of Saint Mary Mother of God Parish in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend while on a mission in the United States. He also held the role of Judge of the Diocesan Tribunal.
