Ponnambalam will be allowed to attend Parliament after being produced before courts - Speaker

Member of Parliament Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam will be allowed to participate in parliamentary sessions after he is produced before courts, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said.

"Police informed me they have to arrest MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and that he will be allowed to participate in parliamentary sessions after he is produced before courts," the Speaker said in response to a query by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

"We cannot stop the police from performing their duty," the Speaker added.

"We do not agree with Mr. Ponnambalam's ideologies but we feel that he has the right to come to Parliament and make a statement," Mr. Premadasa said.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardena)

In the last five years how many parliamentarians have been in heated argument with the police that resulted in they being arrested instantly or later by the police ? None. So obviously this parliamentarian is being singled out , why ? Is it because he is a Jaffna Tamil ? The LTTE terrorists are thankfully gone and the Tamils want to live peacefully, that fact has to be understood clearly by the Police and Sri Lankan Ministers .
