Colombo, May 12 (Daily Mirror) - A scam is currently circulating at high speed, falsely claiming to offer internet facilities and 50 GB of mobile data under the names of various leading telecommunications companies, police said.
According to a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Sri Lanka Police, the scam dansala appears to be timed to coincide with the Vesak full moon day and is designed to trick unsuspecting users into entering personal information into fraudulent applications.
Police advised that these offers are entirely fake and warned the public not to provide any personal details, especially on unverified websites or mobile applications.
Authorities also urged the public not to share One-Time Passwords (OTPs) received on their phones with third parties, as this could result in unauthorised access to personal data and financial loss.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages or links to the police or relevant service providers immediately.
