Police sergeant arrested while soliciting Rs. 10,000 bribe



Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - A Police Sergeant attached to the Keerthibandarapura Police was arrested today while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption said.

The arrest was made following a complaint filed by a businessman from Kandaketiya, who claimed the officer had demanded money to allow him to continue his sand transportation business without any hindrance.

The officer was taken into custody at a hotel in Keerthibandarapura during a raid carried out by Bribery Commission officials.

He was later produced before the Walapane Magistrate’s Court and was ordered to be remanded until August 18.
