Police seize 1,758kg of heroin and ice in maritime raids

Colombo, June 29 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Police have seized 1,758 kilograms of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (‘ice’) during April and May 2025, following major interdictionsmulti-day fishing vessels attempting to smuggle drugs into the country by sea.

Police said, four separate raids by the Police Narcotics Bureau, led to the recovery of these large quantities of narcotics. 

Police also said that 25 suspects were arrested in connection with these smuggling operations during the same period.

According to the police, sea-based drug trafficking remains a significant challenge, with both the volume of seized narcotics and the number of arrests rising.

The seized heroin is estimated to be worth around Rs. 10.84 billion, while the ice is valued at nearly Rs. 12.16 billion.
