The suspect was later released on bail and a travel ban had been imposed pending further investigations. The case is scheduled to be taken up on May 19.

The student, who lived at Expo Housing Complex on Galpoththa Road in Kotahena, died after jumping from the sixth floor of her apartment building.

On May 5, the Police Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children and Women had received a telephone complaint to its 109 hotline from a third party, that the concerned child had committed suicide owing to the psychological trauma caused by a teacher at a private tuition class insulting her in front of other students.
