Colombo, March 21 (Daily Mirror) - Kalutara South Police are investigating into an incident where a man allegedly chopped off a friend's finger during a drinking session.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Manikkaratne Susil Suranga, a resident of Remunagoda, Kalutara, filed a complaint regarding the incident, which occurred on March 6, but was reported to the police only on March 20.
According to the complaint, the victim had gone to a friend's home to drink alcohol, where another acquaintance had later joined them. During the gathering, an argument broke out when one of them slapped the other, prompting a retaliatory slap.
The suspect, who had invited the victim to his home, then went to the kitchen, retrieved a hook, and attacked him. As a result, the victim's left index finger was severed, and he sustained a cut above the elbow on his right hand as well.
He was initially admitted to the Nagoda Teaching Hospital in Kalutara and later transferred to the National Hospital Colombo for further treatment.
The victim had told doctors that he had gone to visit his ailing mother at the time.
After being discharged from the hospital on March 11, the victim decided to file a complaint after the suspect, allegedly intoxicated, threatened him with a knife and hurled insults.
Kalutara South Police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
