The Sri Lanka Police have decided to increase the reward offered for information leading to the recovery of illegal firearms and hand grenades.
This decision comes in response to the continued circulation of illegal weapons, despite recent efforts to curb crime.
Police said the increase in rewards is part of a broader initiative to combat crime and foster a peaceful environment where citizens can live without fear.
They said operations targeting the seizure of illegal firearms and hand grenades are currently underway.
To further encourage cooperation, the police have raised the rewards for both officers and private informants who provide crucial information leading to the capture of illegal weapons.
Accordingly, the police will reward Rs. 1 million to the officer who makes the arrest along with a suspect carrying a T-56, and Rs. 750,000 to the private informant.
Police said the reward for information leading to the recovery of a T-56 without a suspect will be Rs. 750,000 for the officer and Rs. 500,000 for the private informant.
