Colombo, June 5 (Daily Mirror) - Police have sought public assistance to locate and arrest three suspects who allegedly fled the scene of the fatal road accident near the Meegoda Junction on the Avissawella-Colombo High Level Road, which claimed six lives and left seven others critically injured.
The tragic incident occurred on May 31, 2026, when a cab veered into a group of people who were waiting in line at a roadside Dansala.
The driver of the cab was arrested shortly after the accident and was produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on June 1. The court ordered that he be remanded until June 16 while investigations continue.
Further inquiries have revealed that three additional individuals were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police said the suspects had exited the cab and fled the area while authorities were taking the driver into custody. Two police teams have since been deployed to trace and arrest the suspects.
The wanted individuals have been identified as Attanayakege Don Vasantha of Kudamaduwa, Siddhamulla, Piliyandala, who is also the registered owner of the cab; S.K. Kumara, also known as Sellamuttu Sellakumar, of Pelanwatta, Pannipitiya; and Don Sarath Hettige, also of Pelanwatta, Pannipitiya.
Police have released photographs of the suspects to the media and urged the public to provide any information that could assist in locating them.
