Police hunt for fraudster who defrauded Rs. 17.5 million in job scam

Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - Police are seeking public assistance in apprehending a suspect wanted for defrauding individuals of Rs. 17.5 million with promises of employment abroad, particularly in countries like England and Poland.

Police said the fraud was operated under the guise of IMH Logistics (Pvt) Ltd, based in Janajaya City Hall, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.

The Mirihana Special Criminal Investigation Division has launched an inquiry into the fraud and has already arrested a female suspect, who was produced before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Colombo.

During interrogation, it was revealed that an individual named Fernando, claiming to be the company owner, was involved in the scam. However, the suspect's whereabouts and identity remain undisclosed.

Police have released photographs of the suspect and urge the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts.

Why are our people so dumb as to give money to fraudsters, when so many scams have been reported. All they need is to check with Foreign Employment Bureau.

Whilst hunting for the fraudster move court to freeze all his Bank accounts. The account numbers will be known to the job seekers. Obtain his NIC from a bank and move court for an order on all the commercial banks/Finance Companies to freeze all accounts open under that NIC. This must be done before he withdraw the money

A diaspora from UK was at the luxury hotrl in Jaffna and ordered some food and the waiter started talking casually and asked which area of England he was from and said I might meet him there and continued I have paid 3.5 million and waiting to fly. The diaspora nearly fainted and advised him, get that money back and start a business here and you would do well and instead if you go there it would be very, very long time before you earn that amount. Diaspore didn’t believe he would take that advise but in London he bumbed into him several months later and he regretted for not taking his advice. The other side is green, always!! The cow that is good will be purchased with the village as the saying goes!!

Introduce though penalties and provide licencing with guarantors to operate and in the event customer can recover the monies accordingly .sri lanka have become easy target for con artist and fraudsters due to poor regulations far toomany scams people have become easy target
