Police fire warning shot in Matugama

A police officer assigned to provide security to a residence near Athulathmudali Maha Vidyalaya in Matugama fired a warning shot into the air this evening, police said.

The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. after the officer observed a suspicious van parked in front of the protected house. 

It was reported that the residence has been under police guard since a woman living there was fatally shot several years ago.

Police said that the officer fired the shot as a precautionary measure. 

No injuries or damages were reported in connection with the incident.
