Police constable arrested for accepting bribe from businessman

Colombo, Sept. 12 (Daily Mirror) - A Police constable attached to the Karathivu Police Station in Ampara has been arrested by the Bribery Commission for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a businessman.

According to the Commission, the constable had demanded a bribe in exchange for returning the revenue licence of a businessman from Sainthamaruthu, which had been taken into police custody without any legal action.

The suspect was arrested at the police station and is to be produced before the Sammanthurai Magistrate’s Court.

IGP; You need to stop such actions by Police for people to respect. Demanding bribe from citizens by police force is very common. Over to you.

Good news. Entire police department should be rehabilitate, because most of police people people thinking wearing a uniform means thay can do anything . First of all they must educate what are their main duties and respect the public. Police people begging the bribes to free from wrongdoing is not acceptable. Give this policeman maxim punishment.

This is another incident that shows bodycams should be mandatory. Also legal system should be modernize to easily collect fines.
