Police Inspector arrested for alleged drunk driving after two hit-and-run crashes



Colombo, July 26 (Daily Mirror) - A Chief Inspector of Police attached to the Special Investigation Unit of the Homagama Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Division has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene after striking two young women in two separate road accidents, police said.

According to the Meegoda Police, the two incidents occurred between on July 25. The first accident took place near the Meegoda fuel station on High-Level Road, while the second occurred near the 20th Mile Post in Wataraka.

Police said the officer allegedly attempted to leave the area in his car after the collisions but was later apprehended by Meegoda Police officers.

A breathalyzer test conducted following the arrest confirmed that the suspect had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incidents, police said.

The arrested officer, who serves as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Special Investigation Unit in the Homagama SSP Division, is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate's Court today (July 26) for further legal proceedings.
