Wanni, April 9 (Daily Mirror) - Plans are underway to launch a programme aimed at providing preferential assistance to the families of war heroes across various sectors such as health, public administration, banking and other services in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, Tri Forces and the Ranaviru Seva Authority, State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon said.
The Minister also announced the government's intention to prioritize war heroes and their families in the 'Urumaya' land deeds presentation programme, aiming to provide them with land ownership opportunities.
"It is crucial that we prioritize the welfare of those who have given so much for our country," the Minister said at a programme at the Regimental Centre of the Gajaba Regiment.

It must be made clear once again that there are almost no war heroes in Sri Lanka. At the time of the war, the military consisted of cowards (65,000 deserters), war criminals and mostly young men from poor rural areas who completed their service but were far from being heroes. No wonder it took such an army 30 years to defeat an enemy ten times outnumbered. But be that as it may, of course the state has a duty to provide for the families of fallen soldiers so that they can lead a reasonable lifestyle.

Very good. Are you not concerned about the war widows and orphans in the North and East ? Don’t you have a heart ? This is why Sri Lanka should have two states in one country. Have you made a trip to the North and East which is part of Sri Lanka and seen the cadjan huts in which these war widows and disables live?

Stop the hero worship of the war. Remember this war was against one's own citizens of this country. You Sinhalese did not have so many memorials when killing the JVP in the south, whereas they are also poor youth of this country but making it a heroic deed for killing the Tamils of the north who are part and parcel of this country. Do not keep opening old wounds. Both JVP and LTTE are a result of poor governance, improper timely decisions and arrogant methods to settle the problems of a community in an amicable manner.

Why is that governments are always offering all these benefits to various sections of the society when an election is around the corner? Who are they trying to fool?

How about families of LTTE fighters who sacrificed their life on behalf of Tamil people? Why not consider their well being also?
