Petrol bomb attack in Jaffna injures five; three arrested



Three youths have been apprehended by the police on suspicion of causing harm to five individuals by throwing a petrol bomb at a residence in the Chunnakam area of Jaffna.

The incident resulted in injuries to the mother, father, son and two daughters in the house, who were rushed to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

According to Police, a masked group arrived at the house assaulted the occupants and damaged the property. Police stated that prior to attacking the house the group had damaged a parked three-wheeler.

The cries of the residents had pro.pted the assailants to initiate the petrol bomb attack.

Accordingly, the Chunnakam Police launched an investigation, resulting in the arrest of three individuals believed to be involved in the incident.

Subsequent to the arrest, it has come to light that the attack was orchestrated by a group of individuals, including the boyfriend of one of the girls residing in the house, who had been engaged in a romantic relationship with another young man.

However, the actual motive behind the assault is still to be ascertained. The arrested suspects are set to be presented before the Jaffna Magistrate's Court, while the Chunnakam Police are carrying out further investigations. (Romesh Madushanka)
