School children in the Western Province have been granted permission to wear a suitable light-colored long dress under their school uniforms so as to rotect against Dengue, the Western Province Zonal Education Office said.

The move will come into effect from today.

Without taking absurd decisions to get children to wear a long dress before wearing the school uniform our schools should ensure that their environment is free of breeding grounds of mosquitoes. When a collective effort is not made by the authorities to keep their schools clean by not monitoring the progress on a daily basis with rains frequently happening this matter seems to be neglected and will get out of control. Is it practicable to wear a coloured dress which is a hassle to children of the lower grades in a climatic condition of hot weather. Coordination is necessary with the municipal councils by using citronella spray on a regular basis for protection not haphazardly to impress teams who overlook the Dengue Strike Force team.

Long dress under a knee-length dress??? What nonsense is this? It will look ridiculous. Why not pants which is more realistic and comfortable? With one dress on top of another, the kids will die of heat before any mosquito bites them. Be realistic will you?
