Perahera elephant attacks youth

Colombo, March 13 (Daily Mirror) - A man was injured after an elephant taken to parade in a perahera organised by a Kovil in Kotagala, Hatton, attacked him last night.

The elephant attacked the man while he was attempting to feed it after the perahera.

The injured man was admitted to the Kotagala Divisional Hospital.

There is nothing called tamed elephants. All elephants are wild and the belong to the forest they were born. There is no record of elephants being born to captive elephants. The only exception iis Pinnawela. These majestic animals should not be paraded on the streets in fancy dress just because some have delusions.

Culture is an ever evolving thing and only the small minded wants to keep it trapped in a bygone era, like the ones who advocate domestication of large wild beasts like elephants in the name of tradition. Although it's democratic to hear all the voices but for the betterment of society and animal welfare, people with such views should not be listened to.

The cause is clearly animal cruelty. If the animal was treated well, it wouldn't behave this way. Having elephant in perahara will always result in animal suffereing.

For the love of God, please stop and abolish this nonsense of using such innocent majestic animals, for entertainment and show. These are living, breathing, emotional and sensitive animals who have feelings, a soul and a beating heart too. Why on earth, in such a country like ours, should elephants go through such abuse and cruelty? Have you all seen the videos that go into the training, taming and so called “breaking in” of these innocent animals, which are then used for parades and all the other rot we use them for? Get over this archaic nonsense, as we live in a civilised society, not that of barbarians and savages. The highly respected and loved Buddha, would never condone such acts of sadism towards animals. Give Buddhism a proper chance to flourish here. Compassion towards animals, be it our dogs/puppies, elephants and leopards, is of great importance and value in these trying times.

indian billionaires son rescues so many animals, builds animal sanctuary, elephant therapy spa to get them rehabilitated from chain and torture without any publicity no fame nothing, ,here our primitive idiots chain them in the name of a faith (way of life by animal torture to worship humans )., someone explain how can we grow as a nation forward when we have such caveman mindset?
