Refuting media reports that former JVP MPs have obtained pensions amounting to Rs.240 million for the past 13 years, former JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today pension of 11 former JVP MPs were credited to party's Common Fund.

He told a news conference that according to a document released by the Secretary General of Parliament, some 266 MPs representing various political parties were eligible for the pension and that 11 of them were JVP MPs.

"The allegation that former JVP MPs have obtained Rs. 240 million as pension for the past 13 years was baseless and factually incorrect. Pension of 11 former JVP MPs were credited to the party's Common Fund," he said.

Dr. Jayatissa said pension of all MPs would be totally abolished under a National People's Power (NPP) government and added that MPs who were frightened because of this, are spreading false news to mislead the people.

He said a budget proposal brought in before two years to make it mandatory to serve as an MP for ten years to claim the pension has not been implemented as yet. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Well said DR Jayathissa and up to now no political party has come forward to change the exciting system of governess which has led to the destruction of this beautiful land. Those who go to the parliament hold the most privilege people of this country.

What is wrong if they are willingly donating their own pension to their party ..I don't think there is anything wrong in that ...while government MPs looting public money these people are sacrificing their own salaries and pension..if you point one finger on them 4 fingers come back towards you.. this is a fake news to discredit them ...Do all what you can do but all this will backfire on you

Taking the money to the party is worse than being used by the ex MPs. It's government's money ,in other words, people's money misused for political gains. Where is the rest of the pensions of the other 29 MPs. Give power to them, Sri Lanka will become a Cuba with no freedom of anything. Do not vote from your heart do it from your brain.

So what’s the uae of giving pensions and what’s the use of that fund to the country

    jepstheory Sunday, 12 March 2023 07:33 AM

They send the pension money to the Fund. The fund give the living expenses to them. lol

    Nm Sunday, 12 March 2023 07:39 AM

You are missing the point. More likely you are trying to hood wink people of this country. It is the hard earned money of the people of this country charged as taxes yiu are using to fund your party.

Implement the proposal Sunday, 12 March 2023 07:46 AM

"A budget proposal brought in before two years to make it mandatory to serve as an MP for ten years to claim pension has not been implemented as yet." Tell us honestly, whether you will ever implement this rule? If you do it, most of Rajapasas will lose their pension and living quarters. Gota- the run away President will be left high and dry. Please implement the proposal and save the country.

And the pays them a large stipend for its MPs and other full time members. Sometimes wealthy party supporters do this from their pockets.

    sam Sunday, 12 March 2023 08:06 AM

What does he mean by saying 'factually incorrect" Pensions may have gone to a common fund but it came in the names of those ex MP's.

    Johan Sunday, 12 March 2023 08:14 AM

Pension means it is personal to individuals how can it goes to a party' s account.Pensions to former and present Parliamentarians should be abolished. The Younger generation should make a note of this, because there is no retirement age and they are covered by special privileges act.

    Ratnam Sunday, 12 March 2023 10:22 AM

So what you do with your pension is not others business.period. Otherwise stop the pension for everyone of the MPs.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Sunday, 12 March 2023 09:12 AM

Good move, why pay pensions for ,MPP, they are elected to serve the masses, they have brought this country to the current predicament.

Citizen silva Sunday, 12 March 2023 09:22 AM

The fact is that you have claimed the pension. How you used is not material to us

    Dayan Sunday, 12 March 2023 09:33 AM

It's a joke to discuss with pension taken by former JVP MPP. They have not forcibly taken it. Pension payments to MPP were decided by parliament. Blame those who approved it and got the benefit too.

    SL Sunday, 12 March 2023 09:55 AM

That means you too took the pension while voicing against it !! kudos!

Ex JVP Sunday, 12 March 2023 09:55 AM

What's the benifit to the people. Still it charged from tax payers pocket. After contributing to party's fund, party is paying back it to it's polical exco members. Also they used this funds to various political activities including stricks. People think twise before you vote.

Mano Thuraisingam Sunday, 12 March 2023 10:16 AM

To break the cycle of corruption and to liberate the country from the curse, we need to elect JVP at least once! Else we will be recycling the same garbage again and again

Sue Kirthisinghe Sunday, 12 March 2023 10:21 AM

Does this mean the Govt. has been funding the JVP all along? What a laugh. Ironic isn't it?

    Zaza Sunday, 12 March 2023 10:49 AM

System change is necessary for most evil acts done in the name of the people. All parties contest elections on their manifestos. None of the manifestos of any of the Political Party speaks about "Pensions for MPs" - "Privileges for Ex-Presidents". Yet the 225 team up pass laws.

    Nuwan Sunday, 12 March 2023 10:58 AM

That's even worst. This begs the question on how the MPs and ExMPs earn their living. Do they have unknown donors whom they will treat generously when they come to power? All MPs in parliament run private businesses. Party fund is no different. Conflict of interest is all over.

    Lal Sunday, 12 March 2023 12:17 PM

Once u accepted the pension it is immaterial whether it is dumped in the sea or goes to the party fund. Point is u have claimed it while criticising others for taking it. This is pure hypocrisy

    L Jaya Sunday, 12 March 2023 12:22 PM

They talk big of nationalism, fraud and many more to the gallery to give some stimulus. They sold their luxury car permits and drive double cabs to show the public their innocence and ethics. May be those funds used to educate their children abroad. These are VEDI BHANA.
