The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has sent a notice to parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera informing him to settle his electricity bill dues amounting to Rs. 637,448.38.

The letter was issued by the CEB on September 29 to his official residence at No. 12, Gregory Road, Colombo 7, via registered post under the CEB account number 0794191932.

The letter said that there was a pending payment of Rs. 494,739.69 when handing over the residence to the said minister in 2016.

Relating to the account, Rs. 1,132,188.07 has to be paid up to the month of August, 2022. Accordingly, the total due payment has increased to Rs. 637,448.38 as the payment for the usage of electricity.

The CEB had informed the Minister that the total payment was due by October 15. The CEB also informed the Minister to settle the payment to avoid disconnection of his power without further notice.

Shame on him as well as the CEB. My power line was disconnected once for late payment of Rs. 450.- I just can't tolerate the way the CEB behaves towards the powerful and wealthy one way and underprivileged lot another way. Pretty shame!!!!

Do we as citizens of the nation, have a right to demand details of all outstanding amounts from MPs, ministers and all living in official residence from the CEB? If not, can we go to courts to compel the CEB to make this information public? Is there any knowledgeable person in this forum?
