Colombo, April 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Acting Magistrate of Kalutara, Bandula Weerasinghe, yesterday (15) ordered that a patient accused of sexually assaulting a female doctor at the Nagoda Teaching Hospital be remanded until April 27.
The suspect, a resident of Thannahena, Samagipura, Mahagama, had initially been admitted to the Pimbura Base Hospital with a head injury before being transferred to Nagoda Teaching Hospital for further treatment. He was receiving treatment in Ward No. 22 at the time of the incident.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on April 14 (New Year’s Day) at around 6.30 p.m., when an intern doctor went to check the patient’s blood pressure. The doctor alleged that during the examination, the patient inappropriately touched her chest. Despite warning him and stating she would lodge a police complaint, the patient is said to have repeated the act when she returned to attend to him again.
Following the complaint made to the hospital police, an investigation was launched under the instructions of Kalutara Headquarters Chief Inspector Nalaka Gunasekara. Sub-Inspector Wanniarachchi conducted inquiries into the incident.
Magistrate Weerasinghe later visited the hospital, observed the suspect, and issued the remand order.
The incident was reported to court by Sergeant Roshan of the South Kalutara Police.
