Colombo, May 26 (Daily Mirror) - The main reason for many admission requests for intermediate grades cannot be accepted is due to irregular admissions in the past. As a result, some classes now have more than 50 or 60 students, making them difficult to manage, Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewe said.
He said that the Ministry will soon issue a new circular with clear rules for admitting students to intermediate grades in schools.
The Ministry continues to receive numerous requests from various groups seeking admission for children to intermediate grades.
A group of teachers met with Ministry officials today to discuss the issue. Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also addressed the matter in Parliament, saying that the old admission system is no longer suitable.
To address the issue and ensure a fairer process, the Ministry is preparing a new set of guidelines. The circular containing these guidelines will be issued soon.
Once released, it will help teachers, parents, and other interested parties understand how student admissions to intermediate grades will be handled while moving forward, the Prime Minister added.
