Passara–Namunukula road closed after pine trees fall

The Passara–Namunukula main road has been temporarily closed from tonight (13) due to a hazardous situation caused by two large pine trees that fell onto the road near the 12th mile post, Namunukula Police said.

Motorists have been advised to use the alternative route via Ella Ballaketuwa, Nawalagama, Demodara, Uduwara, Hali Ela, and Badulla.

Police further stated that the trees fell this afternoon (13) due to heavy rain, bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

As it is too dangerous to remove the fallen trees at night, the road will remain closed overnight. The trees will be cleared and the road restored tomorrow (14) in coordination with the Road Development Authority.
