Pass fuel price reduction benefit to people; Minister tells Three-wheeler Unions

Three-wheeler Unions should act to pass the benefit of fuel price reduction to the people as prices of petrol have been reduced by Rs. 100 in three separate occasions, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said today.

He told Parliament that steps were being taken to increase the fuel quota for three-wheelers that were operating on full time basis within next two weeks.

"Petrol prices were reduced by Rs. 20 on one ocassion and by Rs. 40 in two occasions. The three-wheeler unions must now pass the benefit to the people," he said.

Responding to a question by SJB MP Mujibur Rahman, the Minister said registration of three-wheelers operating on full-time basis was being carried out at present and that fuel quota given for them would be increased soon after the registration process is completed.

"There were around 11,000 three-wheelers registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles but it was found out that only 350,000 three-wheelers were running on full-time basis. Registration of three-wheelers are being done and it would be completed within the next two weeks," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
