Parliament commotion over MP’s claim on Rohini Kaviratne’s name change

Colombo, February 22 (Daily Mirror) - A commotion erupted in Parliament today when ruling party MP Nalin Hewage said a person by the name of Rohini Kaviratne has changed her name to Rohini Lamaratne.

"I saw an advertisement in the papers to this effect," he said.

The commotion erupted when Opposition MP Harsha de Silva raised a point of order, stating that MP Hewage has insulted MP Kaviratne.

"You cannot insult a fellow MP as per standing orders," Dr. de Silva said.

"I did not refer to the MP but only said one Rohini Kaviratne has changed her name to Rohini Lamaratne," Hewage said.

Heated arguments erupted at this point.

With so many problems in the country, why is the parliament spending taxpayers' money discussing such trivial matters? This is a failure of the government. They may be nice people, but they are not good leaders. Their naivety is evident. They do not know how to set priorities, make strong leadership decisions, and take necessary actions. Despite the enormous power granted to them by the public, the Rajapakses and the opposition still rule the country.
