Pakistan has decided to tone down this year's celebration of Defence and Martyrs’ Day due to the ongoing devastating floods across Pakistan and in solidarity with the victims and their families, according to the Pakistani High Commission.
It has been decided that this year’s Defence and Martyrs’ Day will be observed with solemnity and simplicity, the High Commission added.
The commemoration will be restricted to prayers for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan, as well as special prayers for the Shuhada who sacrificed their lives in the defence of the motherland. Special prayers will also be offered for the victims of the floods, their families, and all those affected by this national calamity, according to the High Commission.
The Defence Day Reception scheduled to be held in Colombo today, has also been cancelled.
