Pahala Kadugannawa area remain closed indefinitely: Kegalle Dist. Secy.

The Pahala Kadugannawa area on the Colombo Kandy main road will remain closed until further notice, Kegalle District Secretary, Mahinda S. Weerasooriya said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken today due to possible heavy showers and earth slips in that area.

The landslide threat was detected yesterday near the 98th km post on the Colombo-Kandy main road.

Earlier, it was decided to allow only light vehicles to pass through that area using one lane, but the Road Development Authority (RDA) advised closing the area due to possible landslide threats.

RDA requested motorists to use alternative routes to reach Kandy and Colombo.

Motorists can use the following alternative routes to reach Kandy from Colombo:

  • From Ambepussa to Kurunegala and then to Kandy via Galagedara-Katugastota.
  • From Kegalle to Polgahawela and then to Kandy via Galagedara Katugastota.
  • From Mawanella to Rambukkana, Hatharaliyedda, and Galagedara, Katugastota to Kandy.
  • From Mawanella to Hemmathagama and then to Kandy via Gampola Peradeniya.

Motorists can also use the following alternative routes to reach Colombo from Kandy:

  • From Katugastota Galagedara to Kurunegala
  • From Katugastota Galagedara to Rambukkana
