PUCSL gets new Chairman

Prof. M A R Manjula Fernando assumed duties today as the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

His name was approved by the Constitutional Council that met yesterday.

The PUCSL Chairmanship fell vacant after Janaka Ratnayake was removed from the position recently.

We don't need another government puppet. The PUCSL is meant be independent, and looking after interests of citizens. This new fellow will most likely just rubber stamp any and all government proposals, while taking home an massive salary, and he would have lavish allowances as well. Last Chairman was driven by self-interest rather than the long term of the nation, but this fellow if he doesn't actually do anything different to government requests is no better.

I have my opinion about the previous chairman, and it is most different to yours. Wonder what benefits if any you received because of Ratnayake. I know my country was worse off because CEB was made to run for loss too long, eventually maybe being even the straw that broke the camel's back (that is Sri Lanka's debt repayments).
