PUCSL denies request for 2-hr 20-min power outage from tomorrow

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) today denied approval for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) request for longer power cuts from tomorrow, PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said.

Accordingly, the CEB requested a two-hour and twenty-minute powercut from tomorrow.

However, the CEB has not justified the extension of the power cut with proper reasons.

Hence, the PUCSL approval was given only to continue the prevailing scheduled powercut of one hour and twenty minutes. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

This seems like madness. Maybe the CEB is be running into major power generation issues and asking for relief this way. Then where is the Minister, or State Minister talking up it? Also, CEB not putting out quickly about reason for power issues which also seems lacking comptence, as obviously they then get knock back. If CEB not incompetent, then I would deduce it is the Thero, and religious group protest are causing issues within the CEB, for the potential revenue loss. Public must safeguard our country by take a stand against Religious groups for them asking for subsidy otherwise this apparent unexplained inconvenience causing requests with CEB will only escalate.

Slowly moving to long power cuts. We the citizens have to undergo all hardships whilst the authorities go behind arangalaya protestors and put them behind bars to stop future protests, but, nothing so far done by the authorities to get the culprits who created this economic situation and bring them before justice. Wonderful Democracy (aka hipocracy) in wonder Island

Privatise CEB! Power cuts will come down, bills will come down! But... We will be have a few thousands of those offspring from the 1980 July strikers striking again till they expire! Good on the country. Just do it! Don't look at cheap political gain like we have been doing since independence. Now that will be real 'system change'! Not what the aragaley jokers want.

First time I see PUCSL denies. On one side President is calling for investors to come in, and on the other side, trying to increase power cuts. These can't go hand in hand.

Funny thing, we had a power cut in our area from 8am to 6pm plus the usual 1 hour power cut from 6.15. for urgent maintenance they said (It's called 'unofficial' power cut) So the PUCSL anyway took it's pound of flesh!

Tired of these power cuts. Sadly despite the power cuts the bills haven’t reduced but increased instead. If they can increase the charges then the CEB should provide us without power cuts. Actually the charges are far too high. When the electricity bill is paid there’s not much left to run the month. And today I got my water bill noticed that too has increased. This government is only taking from the citizens but giving back nothing.

As an affected Consumer I went through the website of the PUCSL to check on the power cut schedule from 23rd Sept onwards. As has hitherto been , done, the PuC does not give the times for each Group for easy perusal. Instead there is a boast from Janaka R. that he denied the request of the CEB for longer power cut and besides requiring Consumers to join Face Book to get the times of power cuts. What is the joker up to ?
