The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved the Ceylon Electricity Board's (CEB) request for scheduled power cuts under four categories today (10) and tomorrow (11).

Accordingly, a one-and-a-half-hour power cut will be implemented across the country between 3:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

The CEB had requested approval for this power cut to manage electricity demand due to the inactivity of the Lakvijaya (Norochcholai Coal) Power Plant.

The power cut schedule is as follows:

This is not the problem of the monkey. The monkeys roamed this land long before humans. The reason is an ill designed grid. This happened due to the haphazard installation of rooftop solar systems without upgrading the characteristics of the grid or transmission and distribution network. Do not blame the poor monkey. We need to feel sorry about the poor animal.

Lets look at the bright side of this dark situation. The govt promised our electricity bill will come down. Well, when we dont have electricity to use due to monkeypox the bills will reduce. So the govt is keeping their promise even though the monkey gets the credit. Long live AKD and the NPP

PUCSL should demand the CEB to submit plans for corrective and preventive action when requesting for power cuts. Eg, What steps will you take to prevent such power outages to the general public? By when? What ever technology and grid re designs that are needed to stop this tripping process should become a priority for the govt to invest on. If not a bicycle chain over the wires in Biygama stretch or a monkey in Panadura are the kind of lame but true reasons the highly paid Electrical engineers will give.

All reservoirs are full and spilling can produce power at maximum capacity no fuel shortages so thermal plants can operate. Seeya managed without power cuts. We have had island wide power outages couple of times in the past, but never power cuts following outage. Are the JVP trade unions behind this?
