PT-6 aircraft manufactured in 1958; should be kept in museum: Dayasiri

Claiming that six pilots have been killed in PT-6 aircraft crashes so far, Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara questioned why these aircraft manufactured in 1958 are still used for training purposes.

He told Parliament that the PT-6 aircraft which are used for training purposes were manufactured in 1958 and the engines were manufactured in 1961.

The MP said using these old aircraft for training purposes is unreasonable and regrettable and said they should be kept in museums instead of using them for training purposes.

"The government has spent USD 55 million for repair work of the Kfir fighter jets and the PT-6 aircraft costs only USD 0.75. Who should take the responsibility for these unreasonable and regrettable incidents," he questioned. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Manufacturing of these Aircrafts have going on since1950s. Production of these Aircrafts have been on going as at present.. We brought those Aircraft 10 to 15 back in brand new condition.our aircraft are noway more than 60 to 70 years old. Dont try to misguide the people as you always do.

They will also know who made commission on the Kfir jets. In fact even the late journalist LW seemed to have known. Very surprisingly DJ seems unaware.

Its not a new thing, regular maintenance and airfoil testing required. Even USAF using B52 bombers which produced in 1950s and plan to use till 2050s. As always misleading public based on something not that important.

Then you became a Laughing Stock due to unwarranted comments in relation to that!!??? Please get your facts right?? THESE SLAF PT-6 aircraft were purchased new in 2008-2009 and NOT BEFORE!!!??? BS 1958!!!??? Just declared your ineptness to everyone and sundry, of even doing a simple search in Web, discern information accurately!!! PT-6 aircraft were designed 1958, commenced manufacture in 1961 and service operation commenced in 1964!!!??? That being the case, “How Sri Lanka purchased and operated from 1958!!??? INEPT, UNEDUCATED POLITIICANS are the bane of this thrice blessed country and should be chased away w/o wasting money and resources and NOT the PT-6 AIRCRAFT!!??
