Colombo, April 14 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has extended her wishes to the nation in a message marking the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, highlighting unity, renewal and collective strength.
In her message, the Prime Minister noted that the New Year, celebrated following the traditional solar transition and harvest season, is more than a cultural festivity, describing it as a symbol of prosperity, coexistence and strengthened relationships among Sri Lankans.
She highlighted the unique nature of the celebration, where communities across the country come together through shared customs and traditions, despite the challenges of modern life. The season, she said, provides an opportunity for families, communities and the nation to move forward with renewed hope.
Calling for reconciliation and goodwill, the Prime Minister stressed that the true essence of the New Year lies in setting aside differences and embracing a fresh beginning in a spirit of solidarity. She also commended the resilience and compassion shown by the people of Sri Lanka in overcoming recent economic and natural challenges.
The Prime Minister paid special tribute to Sri Lankans working overseas, acknowledging their contribution to the country’s progress, and expressed concern for the safety and well-being of those living in the Middle East amid ongoing tensions.
She further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to navigating ongoing social and political transformations, with a focus on building a more prosperous future for all.
