Colombo, Jan 9 (Daily Mirror) - The proprietor of Isolez Biotech Pharma AG (Pvt) Ltd. cum the chief suspect of the substandard human immunoglobulin scandal that rocked the entire medical industry has refused to cooperate with the NMRA and CID officials yesterday when he was escorted to the plant on an inspection tour, the police said.

The National Medicines Regulatory Authority officials on a Court directive visited the infamous Isolez Biotech Pharma AG (Pvt) Ltd. plant in Seeduwa yesterday morning, where its owner Janaka Fernando, who is in remand custody, was also brought to the scene.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa told the Daily Mirror the representatives of the NMRA and the Criminal Investigation Department officials had visited the scene around 2.00 pm yesterday afternoon along with the suspect.

The main suspect had however been brought to the plant site by the Welikada Prisons officials escorted by the CID officials as there had been much delay in getting the former arranged for the factory visit.

The NMRA officials had entered the plant premises with the keys in their custody when the suspect was brought to the scene, where he was then escorted into the main building.

The authorities could not proceed to inspect the facility or the main plant beyond the building’s lobby, as the power connection had been shut down previously and the entire premises was dark.

When the officials asked the plant owner to turn the power on, he had refused to comply, saying that he was not feeling well and that he could not exactly remember how to turn the power on, the spokesman said.

The authorities had even escorted the suspect to the main switch panel of the entire premises, where the power lines are connected to an outside transformer but the latter had refused to cooperate.

The officials had no other option but to escort the suspect back to the Welikada Prison shortly after.

Since the court-ordered factory visit was a failure, the officials said that they will report facts to the Maligakanda Magistrate tomorrow, when the case is next taken up, SSP Thalduwa said.

Maligakanda Magistrate on December 27th ordered the NMRA and CID officials to take the main suspect for a plant visit before January 9th and the officials arranged the visit.

Shows the efficiency and incompetence of the CID and the Prison officials. Ideally these officials should be put under lock and key.

Slow walking the investigation. Why not get an eletrecian and restore the power. Even the CEB. This will drag on with the police accepting any excuse by the suspect not to corporate.

Lol. What a joke. Why he cooperate to get a possible prison sentence. It is upto the police and other officials to look for and find evidence. Also they could have taken flashers if the power system cannot be switched on. What a bunch of jokers. These guys wants the criminal to find evidence to put the same criminal in custody. Joke of the century. Never ever help any official if you are in trouble. It is upto the officials to prove allegations. Guess how these police officials behave when it comes to minor matters. Same. This is why we need stronger intelligence unita not these kinds of jokers as officials

Since the inspection was by Court order why did they not get CEB to assist to put power on which is not such a big job.

Unprofessional Officials both NMRA and CID. When will the owner of the Factory become the Electrical Engineer of the Factory? Obviously he will not know how to switch on breakers. The CID should have summoned relevant Engineer and Technician to be available at the factory at the time of inspection. Now can the owner explain and detail the methodology of quality control in the manufacturing plant? Obviously no. So CID needs to have those heads of staff be available to detail that. This is typical rampant incompetency found in State Institutions.

Another cock and bull story. All in all probabilities three musketeers are behind the scene culprits. Anyone who follow this story with all public media during recent past may gasp what is behind story manipulations are.

Obviously the owner and the CID officials must have received instructions from the ex-minister to sabotage the investigation process.

What a drama, CID does not know how to turn the power on? If CID takes Keheliya into custody investigation will move fast as Keheliya would want to get out of custody fast.

There must be a powerful force behind this drama.. Think about placing a gun to his head and requesting for any hidden weaponry. His memory will return to normal as a result.

Would a person suspected of stealing a coconut or a person who may have spoken words that may be offensive to religion be treated so gently.
