Over 65,000 electricity disruptions reported in Sri Lanka

Severe weather across Sri Lanka has caused widespread electricity disruptions, with more than 65,000 power outages reported nationwide.

The minister said that heavy rainfall, strong winds, and falling trees and utility poles have caused numerous power outages across the country. As of this morning, more than 65,000 outages had been reported, of which nearly 26,000 have already been restored.

Minister Jayakody said that rainfall levels remain extremely high nationwide, and many reservoirs near power plants are overflowing. He said officials are taking necessary measures to manage the situation and prevent further disruptions.

Regarding restoration operations, the minister said that the Ceylon Electricity Board and its employees are working diligently to restore power.

However, ongoing adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and rain, are delaying some restoration efforts, particularly the removal of fallen trees. Despite these challenges, the Energy Ministry assured the public that it is making every effort to provide reliable service and restore electricity as quickly as possible.
