Colombo, March 10 (Daily Mirror) - Over 600 kilograms of narcotics have been discovered in a multi-day fishing vessel seized by the Sri Lanka Navy on suspicion of transporting a large consignment of drugs, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala said.
According to the Minister, the vessel was taken into naval custody during a special operation conducted in the deep seas off Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
He added that the vessel is expected to be brought ashore within the next two days.
Wijepala further revealed that security forces also recovered a considerable number of weapons from the vessel.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation carried out on March 7, the Sri Lanka Navy seized another fishing trawler in the deep seas off the southern coast, recovering 102 kilograms of heroin and 900 grams of cocaine.
The narcotics were uncovered following an investigation conducted after the vessel was brought to Dikkowita Harbour.
