Colombo, March 26 (Daily Mirror) - More than 6.2 million people have obtained QR codes after the reimposition of the QR-based National Fuel Pass system, Digital Economy Ministry Advisor Sumudu Rathnayaka said.
Addressing the media, he said the release of fuel according to QR codes was resumed from March 14, and a total of 6,276,911 QR codes have been issued so far.
He said that from March 15 up to now, 2,701,914 new registrations have been recorded to obtain QR codes under the system.
According to the data, 42,899 new registrations were reported on March 14, while 303,068 registrations were recorded on March 16 and 309,349 on March 17. A total of 301,463 new registrations were reported on March 18.
Rathnayaka said that after the override system was introduced on March 19 to assist vehicle owners in retrieving previously registered QR codes when the original mobile phone number was no longer in use or belonged to another person, 654,342 new registrations were recorded.
He further said discussions are currently underway to provide an additional fuel quota for the non-vehicle category, and the relevant quota allocation for that category is expected to be announced by Monday (30).
