Over 300 arrested in overnight operation across Gampaha towns

More than 300 individuals were arrested during a large-scale joint operation conducted overnight on July 4 in the areas of Kandana, Ja-Ela, Wattala and Ragama.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the coordinated operation involved personnel from the Sri Lanka Police, Special Task Force (STF), the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy.

It was aimed at cracking down on a range of unlawful activities, particularly narcotics-related offenses.

According to authorities, the operation was launched in the wake of a recent spike in violent incidents and was part of broader efforts to restore public safety in identified high-risk zones.

Drug addict will remain the same and continue to execute certain criminalities to gain money for his drugs. The longer the addict is consuming drugs, the longer it will take for him to rehabilitate or come out of this. Catching them only provides temporary relief. The drug peddler and the importers are the pipelines who work continuously and lucratively. They are the ones who need to be nabbed, especially those who are working and under protection of either Politicians or Police. So when nabbing the Peddlers or their Importers, it is equally important to catch the Politician and Police involvement.

300 odd persons arrested but not even a 500 gms of narcotics recovered. This is suposed to be a large scale operation by the Police. Was it worth it ?
