Over 1kg of gold seized from Podi Lassie’s in-law’s bank safe
Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has seized a consignment of jewellery, suspected to be gold, belonging to the mother-in-law of underworld figure Arumahandi Janith Madushanka Silva, alias 'Podi Lassie' from a bank safe in Ambalangoda.
Police said the investigation was launched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, focusing on Podi Lassie and his close relatives.
Acting on a court order, police officers took custody of 1.112 kilograms of gold from the bank.
Further investigations are underway to determine whether the jewellery was purchased using proceeds of illegal activity, police said.
