Over 150,000 students qualify for university entrance

Colombo, April 26 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 177,588 students who passed the 2024 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examinations have qualified for university entrance, the Examinations Department announced.

A total of 274,361 candidates including 222,774 school candidates and 51,587 private candidates passed the examinations.

Meanwhile, the results of 456 candidates, including 420 school candidates and 36 private candidates, have been suspended.

Candidates can access their results by logging into the department's official websites: www.doenets.lk and www.results.exams.gov.lk.

This is a misconceived perspective. Good academics should not be the only requirement to enter a U. The U should not be regarded as a trade school. Having said that SL need more trade schools and the public, especially the parents, should be informed that attending a U is not a ticket for a well paying job. U's should foster research and advancement of arts, philosophy, and sciences.

@wickrama Wijayasiri, universities are breeding grounds for JVP new recruits for participating in protests and disruptive activities on demand. These are also places where students with inferior mindset embraces JVP to boost their personality and then exercise the inflated power on the new students in the firm of inhuman ragging. JVP is the cancer of this country.

Now the question is how long it will take to enter and the Uni and start the studies and how long they will take to finish the degree. All these take many moons and once they come out it is too late. This system has to change. The delay to Uni education arising from Covid is still on.

How many qualified to enter STEM faculties?. Not many i think. Most will enter the easy and useless Arts, social studies, Palin, and religious studies faculties. Qualify with useless degrees in 3 years and become waiters or domestic workers in tge middle east or worthless SL civil servant clerks. Recent History of SL.

How much could be accommodated and what is the faith of the rest. We need private uni's for the children so they won't get stagnated in their homes.
