Colombo, July 25 (Daily Mirror) - Police arrested 1,504 suspects involved in drug trafficking and related crimes during a special islandwide operation conducted yesterday.
The operation was carried out under the direction of senior police officials, the Special Task Force, and the Tri-Forces, with a primary focus on curbing drug-related activities across the country.
According to police, a total of 25,671 individuals were checked, and 10,360 vehicles were inspected during the night-long operation.
Authorities also seized 160g and 809mg of methamphetamine (Ice) and 214g and 705mg of heroin during last night’s sweep.
In addition, police reported the confiscation of larger drug hauls during the week-long crackdown, including 2.1kg of methamphetamine, 1.3kg of heroin, and 82kg of cannabis.
Separately, 22 individuals were arrested in connection with various other criminal activities uncovered during the operation.
